Where I've been and where I'm going.

I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do with this blog. For the past 8 months or so, this blog hasn't been a reflection of who I really am. Every time I've posted recently, my posts have felt non-authentic. I got close here, but still, I've decided that my new blog is going to be real. I'm just going to say what I want. And it might get rowdy in there. So if you don't like posts that are angry, sad, have a few curse words here and there, or don't coincide with your beliefs, then don't bother. But for those who are interested, my new blog is here. Wow, this post might have an angsty tinge. Oh, and watch out for that first post, it's a doozy.

2008, a year in review.

Holy crap, another year is past. It seems like 2 months ago that I wrote this post. Sigh... life sure goes fast.

January: I learned monoprinting. It's hard to believe that this was only a year ago. I really went wild with monoprinting and ended up making over 40 prints that semester.

February: All I remember is that it snowed a lot. And I went ice skating. Twice. Oh, and I met Miss Annie. She's one of those friends that you don't hang out with all the time, but you know she's always there. She's so great.

March: The advanced printmaking class was in a print show at the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho. That was the best class. We were so close and created some great work. It was nice to bounce things off of each other so easily. I think we all really benefited.

April: It was a mad scramble to get ready to go to Europe. There was a lot of class work to do. But it was nice to wear the art history boots again.

May: I spent almost the entire month in Europe! Now it makes sense why the year went by so fast for me. Did you miss it? Read about it here, and here.

June: I started working for MyFire and on campus for graphic services.

July: I worked on my BFA project in my after-work hours. Baked with Rachel. Ate Vegan food with Nathan. Went garage sale-ing. Went thrift store shopping in SLC. Best summer. Ever.

August:Ditto to July. Plus pitting cherries for 2 hours. This gave us enough cherries for a total of 2 pies. Not worth it. Except for the company, which was delightful. Sat by the wading pool with Soren. Love him.

September: Miss Bates joined the inner circle of BFFs. Started our bike-riding tradition. Planned our NYC extravaganza.

October: Went to NYC and decided it wasn't the place for me right now. That is why I'm in my parent's basement at this very moment.

November: Crazy BFA stuff. I worked like crazy all day everyday. Nuff said.

December: Went cruising with the fam. Graduated from college. Bought two pairs of skinny jeans.

Now that I'm done with college...

... do I look smarter?

60 years ago today.

Today I'm grateful for my rights.

From Wikipedia:

"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a declaration adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (10 December 1948 at Palais de Chaillot, Paris). The Guinness Book of Records describes the UDHR as the "Most Translated Document" in the world. The Declaration arose directly from the experience of the Second World War and represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled. It consists of 30 articles which have been elaborated in subsequent international treaties, regional human rights instruments, national constitutions and laws. The International Bill of Human Rights consists of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and its two Optional Protocols. In 1966 the General Assembly adopted the two detailed Covenants, which complete the International Bill of Human Rights; and in 1976, after the Covenants had been ratified by a sufficient number of individual nations, the Bill took on the force of international law."

What I'm working on...

This semester, I've had the pleasure of collaborating with the amazing illustrator Lance Fry on a project for my identity design class. It is a logo for a store that provides merchandise that helps kids be safe with technology. Remember "puppy guarding" from elementary school tag? Below the logo are some patterns I'm developing for the identity.

Fun stuff.

Here it is.

It feels pretty weird to have it all done. I kind of don't know what to do with myself. I have all this discretionary time. But don't worry, I think I'll survive. :)
